Establishment of the United Nations. We taught about its history and why it was formed. We had a general assembly where each nation had to decide what to discuss; which candy is better or which sewing machine was better. We discussed the role of Israel, the history, before and after WWII up until today, and why we should support Israel.
One of our families lived in Israel for several years and was able to share first hand experiences.
Independence and partition of India was another center, including the role of Gandhi before the war and how it was divided afterwards. We also talked about the new country of Pakistan.
Decolonization of African countries after WWII was another topic
We discussed Arab Nationalism in the Middle East, Islam, the split of empires, and how it has an impact today. Of course, food was included to solidify the information.
These sand jars were made at the end.
The Antarctica Treaty and its example of international cooperation was also talked about.
